Working Groups

The second pillar of research work at the Bayreuth Academy – besides the Sub-Projects – consists of a total of 6 Working Groups, to be convened consecutively from summer 2013 up to winter 2015/16 for about two months each during the semesters.

Research by debate

They will bring together researchers at the Academy with renowned Guest Fellows from outside and inside Germany and invite them to discuss key aspects of „Future Africa“ across disciplinary and area-based divisions. The Working Groups will use results of empirical research for systematic comparison, stimulate wider theoretical and conceptual debates, and foster methodological reflections. After an initial review of existing debates on "time" and "future" in a broad range of regional as well as systematical disciplines, the cultural, social and historical diversity, the temporal structure, and the modelling of visions of future will be addressed here as well as the presence and representation of knowledge about and for the future. The language of the Working Groups is English.
