Scientific Events and Panels

In summer 2014 we conducted and chaired a working group dealing with cultural conceptions of African natures in the past and the future.

In January 2014 Rafael Nuñez, currently working on cognitive sciences from University of San Diego, California, visited Bayreuth Academy to discuss about the role of conceptual metaphors in concepts of space and time.

In October 2013 Sybille Bauriedl joined the BA as a postdoc fellow for the subproject Visions of Nature. She will analyze the conceptionalization of nature and future within African climate adaption policies and the spatial construction of African and European climate knowledge.

Kupakwashe Mtata conducted fieldwork in Zimbabwe during July-October 2013.

End of July 2013 Prof. Atmanspacher visited the academy to lecture and discuss his work on the concepts of time in physics and cognitive sciences.

In June 2013 Corina Buendía joined the BA as a Postdoc fellow in the subgroup Visions of Nature. She is developing a methodological framework to classify land-use models in the context of African National Parks.

March 2013 Georg Klute traveled to Africa to visit Visions of Nature sub-project fieldwork sites.


Scientific Lectures

Sybille Bauriedl and Detlef Müller-Mahn held a session on "Adaptation in North-South-Context" with papers on climate-related risks and social vulnerability in Ghana and Ruanda. Sybille Bauriedl had an additional paper in the session "Neoliberalization of Nature and Commodified Sustainability" at the 53. Deutscher Geographentag, in Passau 3-6 October 2013.
